POWERS CHURCH: A local historic site eight miles east of Angola, north of U.S. 20 on Old Road 1, will host the final service of the season at 7 p.m. Aug. 25. The Little River Chapter of the Sweet Adelines will present a sacred and patriotic program. Mike Hesterman, pastor of The Metz Christian Church, will speak and an ice cream social will follow at Metz Christian Church. FROGAPALOOZA: The Little River Wetlands Project’s fundraiser, Frogapalooza: Wine, Wetlands & Art, will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 15 at Union 12, 7563 Lincoln Way Road, Columbia City. The annual event supports the nonprofit’s restoration, protection and education efforts. Attendees will enjoy fine dining, live music and the chance to bid on unique art pieces. Admission is $100 per person and includes dinner, a drink ticket, access to the wine pull and participation in a small art auction. GOLF CLASSIC: The Adams Health Foundation will host this 11th annual event Sept. 13 at Wabash Valley Golf Club in Geneva, Indiana. Teams of four can join the tournament for a $400 fee per team, which includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, a vest for each player, nonalcoholic beverages, a cooler bag and a lunch catered by Hummels Meat and More featuring rib-eye sandwiches, brats, or chicken with sides and snacks. The event will feature two flights: the first teeing off at 7:30 a.m. and the second at 1 p.m. Proceeds will benefit high school health care scholarships and community health micro grants, furthering the Adams Health Foundation’s mission to support education and health initiatives within the community. Type O blood donors and those giving platelets are especially needed to help keep hospital shelves stocked through August. LAGRANGE COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM: Several classes and evAents are planned for August. They include Oculus VR, Nintendo Switch, Wii at the LaGrange branch from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays for youth of various ages. Preschool Story Time for children up to age 5, with a farm animals theme, will be held at different times at the LaGrange, Shipshewana and Topeka branches. Teen Dungeons & Dragons will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. the second Monday each month at the LaGrange branch. Patchwork Trails, which combines exercise and fun, will be offered at 6 p.m. Aug. 20. TURNSTONE CENTER: The nonprofit has received $10,000 from the KFC Foundation’s Kentucky Fried Wishes grant program. The funds will fund updates for safety, accessibility and other enhancements to the outdoor environment of Kimbrough Early Learning Center, which serves children ages 2 to 5. This year, the KFC Foundation will fund $1 million in Kentucky Fried Wishes to 100 nonprofits nationwide.
COMMUNITY TRANSPORTATION NETWORK: Fort Wayne’s Rita’s Italian Ice and Frozen Custard franchisees, the Casini Family, presented a $1,000 donation to the organization. A news release said the donation will help to ease the burden of transportation that many people face daily.
